Kitchen Units
There are two main types of kitchen units:

Standard Kitchen Units

The vast majority of people in the UK buy standard cabinets. These cabinets can be supplied either "Flat Pack" for self assembly, or "Rigid" ready assembled. As a rule of thumb Rigid Units tend to be of better quality than Flatpack.

In-Frame Kitchen Units...

People looking for a more traditional look tend to buy In-Frame Kitchen Units. These are generally "Hand Made" and "Hand Painted" insitu, although some kitchen cabinet suppliers make carcase versions.

In-Frame cabinets will normally be far more expensive than standard kitchen units. Your new Kitchen Cabinets are the bedrock of your fitted kitchen, and the quality of the cabinets you buy will determine the life expectancy of your new kitchen.

Poor quality kitchen cupboards may be cheap (and therefore tempting to buy), but within a couple of years you will find the doors will begin to "drop" and the drawer runners and bases' will fail.
We consider the minimum requirements for good quality kitchen cabinets are as follows:

    At least 18mm cabinet thickness
At least 8mm solid back panel
    Solid Drawer bases
    Adjustable Feet
Soft Close / Clip on Hinges
Self Closing Drawers with 30kg capacity
    Hi-line and Drawer-line availability
    150, 300, 400, 450, 500, and 600mm unit widths
    570, 720, and 900mm wall unit heights
Choice of kitchen cupboard colour - to complement door colour

If you purchase good quality kitchen cupboards you can expect them to last at least 15 years. It is always worth a visit to the manufacturers showroom to view the quality of cabinet before buying.[Via]
